Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ApotheCare Support Registry?

The ApotheCare Support Registry is a thoughtfully curated platform that empowers cancer patients and caregivers to maintain dignity and choice throughout their journey. We help people create personalized registries of products and services that truly matter during diagnosis, treatment, and recovery while enabling their support networks to provide meaningful, practical assistance.

How is this different from other gift registries?

Unlike traditional registries focused on celebrations, ApotheCare is specifically designed for cancer patients’ and caregivers’ unique needs. We understand that needs change rapidly during treatment, privacy is paramount, and support must be practical rather than ceremonial. Our registry focuses on comfort, healing, and genuine assistance.

Who can use the ApotheCare Support Registry?

Anyone facing cancer can create a registry at any stage of their journey. We also support caregivers who need assistance caring for their loved ones.

Getting Started

How do I create a registry?

Creating your registry is simple and can be done at your own pace. You’ll set up a private account and add items to help during treatment or recovery. You control your privacy settings and who can access your registry.

What if I don’t know what I need yet?

That’s completely normal. You can start with a basic registry and add items as you learn what would be helpful. We also provide curated suggestions based on items vetted by cancer patients to help guide your choices.

Is there a cost associated with creating a registry?

No, creating and maintaining your registry is entirely free of charge. We believe no one should face additional financial burden during cancer treatment.

Privacy & Control

Who can see my registry?

You have complete control over your registry’s privacy. You can keep it private, share it only with specific people through private links, or make it accessible to a broader support network. You never have to share more than you’re comfortable with.

Can I remain anonymous?

You can create your registry with minimal personal information and share it anonymously. We encourage nicknames to increase anonymity; your comfort and privacy are our top priorities.

What if I don’t want people to know specific details about my treatment?

You have complete control over all information sharing. We do not collect personal health information about your journey, so you can create registries focused on general comfort and support without sharing specific medical details, treatment schedules, or diagnosis information.

Can I update my registry privately?

Absolutely. You can add, remove, or modify items at any time. You can also choose whether to notify your support network of updates or make changes quietly.

How the Registry Works

What types of items can I add to my registry?

Our registry includes a wide range of carefully curated items:

  • Comfort products (soft blankets, pillows, cozy clothing)
  • Practical services (meal delivery, house cleaning, transportation)
  • Wellness items (skincare for sensitive skin, nausea relief products)
  • Entertainment and distraction (books, puzzles, streaming subscriptions)
  • Acts of Kindness
  • Gift Cards
  • Donations to support the cancer community
  • More to come soon!

What if my needs change during treatment?

This is expected and normal. You can update your registry anytime, adding new needs or removing items you no longer require. Your registry grows and changes with you.

Can I specify quantities or timing?

Yes. You can specify exactly how many of these things you need and when they would be most helpful (for example, “meals needed starting week 3 of treatment”). Add this in the NOTE section under each item you add to your registry.

For Supporters & Families

How do I access someone’s registry?

The registrant or caregiver will share a private link with you, or you may receive an invitation through email. You’ll never need to search for or accidentally discover someone’s registry.

Can I contribute money instead of purchasing specific items?

Coming soon!

How do I know what they need most?

The person creating the registry prioritizes items, and you’ll see the most urgent needs in the NOTE section below each item. You can also see what has already been fulfilled to focus on remaining needs.

Delivery & Logistics

How are items delivered?

Items can be delivered directly to the preferred address or the registrant’s email address for e-gifts.

Can I schedule deliveries for specific times?

Connecting with the registrant is essential so they know when to expect delivery. For instance, you wouldn’t want to send items if they will be away for a specific period to receive the gifts.

Practical Questions

What if I can’t afford to contribute much?

Every contribution matters, regardless of size. Our registry features items at various price points, allowing you to contribute partial amounts toward larger needs. Sometimes, the most valuable contributions are your time or simple encouragement.

Can I contribute services instead of products?

Absolutely! Services like house cleaning, meal preparation, childcare, pet care, or transportation are often more valuable than physical items.

What if the patient lives a long distance away?

Distance doesn’t prevent meaningful support. Many items can be delivered nationwide, and virtual support services (such as streaming subscriptions, online grocery delivery, audiobooks, gift cards, and music) can be just as impactful.

How does my contribution help?

People can share updates about how items have been helpful, though this is optional.

Special Situations

What about pediatric cancer?

Registry creation requires users to be 18 or older, and we do not currently support registries specifically for children facing cancer, as in our privacy notice.. However, we strongly encourage parents and caregivers of children with cancer to create their registries to access the support they need during this challenging time.

Caregivers often require significant assistance with transportation, meals, household support, respite care, and other essential services while caring for their child.

Can caregivers create their registries?

Yes! Caregivers often need support, too. They can develop registries for respite care, stress relief items, or practical assistance with caregiving responsibilities.

What about end-of-life situations?

We approach these sensitive situations with extra care and compassion. Registries can focus on comfort items, memory-making opportunities, or support for family members during difficult times.

Can I create a registry for someone else?

Only with their explicit permission and involvement. People should maintain control over their registries, though family members can help with the technical aspects if needed.

Support & Assistance

What if I need help setting up my registry?

Our support team can help with setup, questions, or technical issues. We can walk you through the process or help you create your initial registry.

What if I have concerns about my registry?

We’re here to address any concerns promptly and compassionately. Your comfort with the registry experience is our priority. Email us at hello@apothecare.org

Can I pause or deactivate my registry?

Yes, you can pause your registry anytime if you need a break from receiving support, or deactivate it entirely if your situation changes.

What happens to my registry after treatment ends?

We understand that your journey does not end when treatment does. Oftentimes, it is only the beginning. You can keep your registry active for recovery needs, transition it to a celebration registry for milestones, or close it entirely. The choice is always yours.

Getting the Most from Your Registry

How can I make my registry most effective?

  • Be specific about your needs and timing
  • Update regularly as your situation changes
  • Don’t hesitate to ask for help with necessities
  • Include a mix of immediate needs and longer-term comfort items
  • Consider adding service contributions, not just products

What if I feel guilty about asking for help?

Asking for help during cancer isn’t selfish—it’s necessary and healthy. Your supporters want to help, and the registry makes their support more effective and meaningful.

How do I thank everyone who contributes?

While gratitude is natural, don’t feel pressured to send individual thank-you notes during treatment. A simple update about how items helped or a general message of appreciation is often enough: focus your energy on healing.
